Mersey Recreational League Play

Ages 6-7 years (U7-U8)

Our youngest Mersey League players continue to hone their basic soccer skills, while having fun on a team.

• One weekday 1-hour practice

• One weekend game

• Game details: 4v4 or 5v5, no goalkeeper; four 10-minute periods or two 20-minute halves

Ages 8-9 years (U9-U10) 

At this stage of development, players will learn about team formation and shape. Players begin to process the importance of spatial awareness and begin to understand that “clumping” is not the best way to play soccer.

• Two weekday 1.5-hour practices

• One weekend game

• Game details: 7v7, including a goalkeeper; two 25-minute halves

Ages 10-11 years (U11-U12)

At this stage of development, a player’s physical fitness becomes more key, as the fields are longer and wider. Our Mersey Soccer Club teams typically participate in the Jack London Youth Soccer League. We play against other local recreational club teams from the Alameda, Oakland, Richmond areas. 

• Two weekday 1.5-hour practices

• One weekend game

• Game details: 9v9, including a goalkeeper; two 30-minute halves

At Mersey Soccer Club, we believe in fostering a sense of unity and pride among our players. As such, a Mersey uniform is required for all players, and can be conveniently purchased here.
